Recycling Services
Recycle Technologies has been delivering recycling services to the community since 1993. As a recycling and shredding company based in the Midwest, we operate licensed facilities in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Notably, Recycle Technologies stands as the sole Minority-Owned document destruction and recycling enterprise in the Midwest region.

Ballast Recycling

Ballast Recycling accepts all types of ballasts, including PCB, non-PCB, electronic, and magnetic. Hazardous materials are incinerated at EPA-approved facilities, while non-hazardous materials like copper and steel are reclaimed. Recycle Technologies offers pick-up services, residential drop-off locations, and mail-in recycling kits, and upon proper disposal, it provides a Certificate of Recycling.

What kinds of ballasts do we take?

We take all types of ballasts, including PCB, non-PCB, Electronic and Magnetic types.

Where Do Our Old Ballasts go? How are they Recycled and Reused?

  • PCB/DEHP containing capacitors are removed from cover materials
  • Capacitors are sent to an EPA Approved incineration facility via hazardous waste hauler and manifest
  • Hazardous capacitors are properly incinerated, which eliminates generator liability.
  • Non-hazardous materials (copper, steel) are separated for reclamation

When processing is complete, we issue your company a Certificate of Recycling that verifies proper disposal.

Steps for Ballast Recycling

Stewardship of ballast recycling is another significant procedure in avoiding waste products. For example, ballasts, common in lighting fixtures, can be potential sources, at the end of their life, of valuable materials that could be reclaimed. First of all, by utilizing the idea of ballast recycling, we save resources. Secondly, this company will have minimal adverse environmental effects when disposing of hazardous components. The procedures are as follows: The collection of the ballast, sorting the recovered ballast, dismantling the ballast, getting materials from the ballast, and disposal of wastes.

  • Collection: Used ballasts are gathered from various sources, like buildings or industrial sites.
  • Sorting: second step for ballast recycling is sorting; ballast sorted into categories, typically magnetic or electronic.
  • Dismantling: Before material recovery from ballast recycling; ballasts are taken apart to separate different materials, such as metals, plastics, and electronic components.
  • Material Recovery: Metals like copper and steel are extracted and sent to recycling facilities. Plastics and other materials are also processed for reuse.
