Detailed Regulations:
- Federal EPA Regulations: Generators of less than 100 kg (220 pounds) of hazardous waste per month are exempt from federal regulations but remain liable. Waste testing less than 0.2 mg/l soluble mercury is not considered hazardous under federal rules. Crushing is restricted to the generator and is not allowed for third-party lamps without treatment authorization.
- Florida Specific Regulations: Exemption applies only to generators of fewer than 10 bulbs per month. Recycling is preferred; incineration or disposal at Municipal Solid Waste Landfills (MSWLF) is prohibited. Some county Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) programs may accept these bulbs. Crushed bulbs are managed as universal waste by generators.
